Main character sees himself as a victim when, actually, torturing his wife and bullying her with silly questions. Stay in war for long 10 years. Up to a point the author does a good job at depicting this obsession, but at the cost of having bored me moravka the process by constant repetition.

I don’t get why there are so many 4 and 5 star ratings on this novel. He was also a journalist, playwright, essayist and film critic.

Moravia was an atheist, his writing was marked by its factual, cold, precise style, often depicting the malaise of the bourgeoisie, underpinned by high i, and cultural awareness. I havent read more depressing and annoying book than Contempt Moreover, ‘the symbolic superstructure does not detract from the interest of the narration, nor does it slow the pace; it may even remain unperceived by the naive reader’. All this to support his new wife Emilia, the new flat he has taken, the new car he has bought, the maid who cooks and moragia for them and the secretary who comes in to type for him.
